Colonial Day 2018

Thank you to all who helped make Colonial Day 2018 a success! The students had a great experience and had nothing but good things to say.  They participated in butter churning, candle making, colonial dancing, quill writing, outdoor games, and indoor games.

5th Ave Theater "Rosie the Riveter"

Last Friday morning, students got to enjoy and learn from the fantastic musical performance of the 5th Avenue Theater group, performing “Rosie the Riveter”!  Thank you to PTSA for funding such an important, engaging and inspirational event for our 4th and 5th graders!

 

“During World War II, manufacturing plants that produced munitions and war supplies were in desperate need of workers.  As many men were off at war, women, who typically worked in other trades or in the home, were asked to join the factory workforce to help the U.S. with the increasing demand of supplies. “Rosie the Riveter” became a cultural icon representing the female worker—loyal, efficient, and patriotic.  The can-do spirit of the Pacific Northwest in the 1940s comes to your school in this fast, funny, and inspirational musical. Follow the adventures of young Rosie as she goes to work in a Seattle aircraft manufacturing plant to assist with the war effort and pursue her own dreams.”

Living Voices "Our Revolution"

Last Thursday, we got to watch the inspiring Living Voices theater performance called “Our Revolution”.  A one-man show, starring character Peter Freeman, gave students a glimpse into the life of an African-American man during the Revolution (1775-1783).

“Peter Freeman is growing up as a free black in the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 
the 1770s. When the colonial conflict with the British government reaches his 
town of Concord, Peter and his family find themselves at the heart of the battle. 
While Peter’s father joins the patriot militia, his brother goes to sea and is stolen 
by privateers and sold South into slavery. And by the time the colonies declare 
their independence, Peter and his brother find themselves on oppositesides of a 
war, where they are each forced to face the question: whose liberty am I fighting 
for? Walk in the footprints of a soldier in the Continental Army during the 
American Revolution as he struggles to find a place for himself during the birth of 
both a new country and a new people —the first generation of African-Americans

G5 Memory Book 2018

Dear 5th Grade Parents,

At the end of the year, students will be receiving a copy of their very own amazing 5th Grade Memory Book. Year after year this is a 5th grade favorite (moreso than their beloved CC yearbooks…shhhh!)  This is a special, personalized 5th grade version showcasing each of our awesome 5th grade students.  Dionne G. and I, Michele L. (parents of Estella and Bronson), are putting the book together and we need your help!  I will be visiting the classrooms to get the kids pumped about this special book sometime the month. In January, Dionne visited the classrooms to take current photos of all the kiddos and will be taking a group shot of the whole incredible G5.

 *****In the meantime what we need from parents by April 1st, 2018 are the following:******

• Complete (really, have your child complete) survey sent out via email.  Please email back to me: michelelake20 at gmail dot com

• Submit a digital baby photo! Find a baby or toddler photo and sent it to me at this email address: michelelake20 at gmail dot com. If you do not have a digital copy we can work with you to get a photo scanned. We are here to help.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW AS SOON AS POSSIBLE IF YOU DO NOT WANT YOUR CHILD’S PHOTO TO APPEAR IN THE MEMORY BOOK. This is, of course, a completely optional participation matter. Let me, or your child’s 5th grade teacher know, know if you have any questions.

Movie Night + Art Auction Walk

Bring a friend and enjoy Family Movie Night on Friday, March 23rd from 6:00-8:00pm.   The movie decided upon by 5th graders for this week is “Wonder”!

You will also have an opportunity to preview all theamazing artup for bid at the Cherry Crest PTSA Annual Auction on March 31 at the Bellevue Hilton!

With a mouth-watering array of yummy treats to purchase including tasty cookies, candy, chips and more, Movie Night is fun for all! So please come along and show your support for 5th grade – all snack purchases will go towards 5^th grade graduation activities. Bring a comfy blanket, sleeping bag and pillow and enjoy the show.

As a reminder, this is NOT a drop off event – Being a PTSA sponsored family night, no supervision is provided by the school or the PTSA. A parent or guardian must be on site during the movie.

Units: Special OPS G5 STORO Team, JOINT TASK FORCE K-TEAM

Mission: Gather surveillance on high-value target code name "Clover" in order to conduct operations to secure and capture HVT.

Status:
Mission was compromised and surveillance equipment was found in 1st-floor toilets located in AO Cherry.

 

Leprechaun Traps

Thank you G5 for helping our Kindie Buddies create and set up their leprechaun traps this afternoon! Ms. Lawlor and I were so impressed by your creativity and innovative designs. I can’t wait to hear if anyone catches a leprechaun over the long weekend!
