Halloween Lobster Caught off Massachusetts Coast

While Halloween will be a bit delayed, understated or both for humans on the East Coast this year, no one told the region’s sea life that the holiday won’t go on after superstorm Sandy.

Take the Massachusetts fisherman who found a Halloween treat in his lobster trap that proved to be no trick.

The treat was a lobster caught last week by Dana Duhaime that was not the usual color of lobster-red but orange and black, with the two colors perfectly split down the lobster’s back (ABCnews.com).

First Settlements

The G5 learns about the challenges and successes of Roanoke, Jamestown, and Plymouth.

Win the White House

This past week, students engaged in a on line simulation to win the White House.  Students learned about the process of the elections and what it takes to be involved in their own Presidential Campaign.  A few students stated that they did not know the President won by electoral votes, most believed the president was elected by the popular vote.  They also learned how important the "issues" are in the campaign and how it sways voters to vote for them.

For you World War II history buffs...

A British explorer has discovered a long-lost cache of aircraft hidden in the jungles of Myanmar, the country formerly known as Burma. The vintage Supermarine Spitfire airplanes were buried there during World War II and have set undisturbed ever since. The planes, which are said to be in mint condition, are worth approximately $2.5 million each when sold to collectors. Considering the cache contained 140 Spitfires, that works out to be about $350 million (Adventure BLOG).

Fall Festival Fotografica 2012

 

The annual Fall Festival was filled with monsters, clones, vampires, french fries, pumpkins, sweets, and just good old fashion fun with friends and family.  Great job and thanks to those who donated their time to make the event a success (including our very own 5th graders who helped scare at the Haunted Mansion).  Enjoy the pictures!
