My MSP... by Naomi

     The MSP. If you're wondering what Msp means well I can tell you. MSP stands for Measurment of Student Progress. THe MSP is a test that tells you three things in G5. First, how good you are doing in Math. Second, how good you are doing in Science. Last but not least how good you are doing in Reading. This year we took the test on a computer. I think it was totally better because you don't get tired of writing soooo much! That is what the MSP! Good luck G5!!!!!

Students got the chance to take what they have been visualizing  reading  the Fighting Ground and acted out a scene in their groups.  They did a fantastic job during this activity and had fun in the process!  Great job G5!!

  

Weekly Brief

Here's our focus for the week:

Math - Unit 8 Expressions - Students work with exponents, prime factorization, and the order of operations.  They proceed to write and evaluate expressions, equations and inequalities.  Then students write rules and equations for function tables, and plot and locate points in the coordinate plane.  They combine these skills to graph functions in the coordinate plane.

Language Arts/Social Studies:  Students are reading Fighting Ground by Avi.  The comprehension strategy they are focusing on is visualizing. We also have been talking about internal and external conflict and identifying places in the book were Jonathan, the main character, has these conflicts. They also started chapter 14 of their Social Studies which focuses on the Constitution and our 3 branches of government.

Science:  Students have started the Landforms Unit.  They learned the concept of erosion last week and will learn disposition this week.

Health:  We have one more lesson in health that covers HIV/Aids.

Here's a snapshot of what the students are learning in chapter 14 of Social Studies.  It covers the Articles of Confederation, the Constitutional Convention, The branches of our government, and summarizes how checks and balance work...
